"How Do I Get a Publisher For My Book?"

Anyone who has ever put words to paper has also dreamed of seeing their book at the local Barnes & Noble. You know, one of those giant cardboard cutouts holding copies of your book, along with the words “New York Times Bestseller” and “Soon to be a major motion picture!” plastered in giant yellow letters.

Well, it isn’t going to happen with an eBook, or even a self-published book. To get that kind of publicity, you are going to need a traditional publisher for your book.

Of course, there are some difficulties and downsides to going after a major publisher. Click the link below and check out my article on the topic.

Big ideas and Brainstorming

Brainstorming is often an overused word, incorrectly used to describe any time that someone plans even the simplest trip to the Post Office. True Brainstorming is much more than just planning. It’s about big ideas and putting real effort into future directions. It’s throwing out old methods of business and filling pages with possibilities.

And that’s exactly what I’ve spent the last few days doing.

Sure, there have been other tasks and obligations, but my graph-paper notebook is now filled with colorful charts, diagrams, descriptions of future projects, and thoughts about new products, new services, new websites, and new ways of getting information into the hands of folks that want it and need it. Truly a fun and enlightening process.

What about you? When was the last time you really sat down with paper, pencils, and colored pens and mapped out a future direction for your business or your life? If it’s been a while . . . that’s what quiet mornings and late evenings were made for.

Christmas comes early this year

In just a few hours my family and I will be heading up to Wisconsin for an early Christmas celebration with my sister and parents. Coming just two days after my wonderful Birthday celebration, I’ve been thinking alot about family and friends and the importance of staying close.

My dad is now 73, and still going strong. My mom is just a few years behind, and still active and sharp. These are blessings that too few people can claim, and today I am very thankful for them.

So take a moment today and see what blessings you can find in your own life.

Two things about life . . .

My daughter came home from school yesterday and tearfully told me how a boy she knew was killed when his truck skidded on the ice and was hit in the intersection. Just 17 years old, and his whole life to look forward to – all gone in an instant. I tried to think of some comforting words to share, but truthfully, nothing much came to mind. Until I remembered a quote from Jim Rohn, who also recently passed away.

Jim reminded us that “Life is short, even at its longest. And it can be extra short.” and that “Life is fragile.”

As we all rush around trying to make a fortune and change the world, sometimes you just have to reflect on the fact that it can all be taken away in an instant. One car slips on the road and bumps a mailbox. Another car slips on the road and a 17-year-old boy dies.

I think I’m going to try to live life a little fuller today. What about you?

The Most Important Man I Never Met

I never met Jim Rohn personally. I never even saw him speak in person. Instead, my connection with him came only from the hours and hours that I spent in the car listening to his voice. The program “The Art of Exceptional Living” changed my life, and led me down a path of personal development that has not stopped to this day. Through Mr. Rohn’s words and advice, I’ve accomplished amazing things far outside of my old comfort zone.

With the possible exception of my father, no man on earth has influenced my thinking more than Jim Rohn. If you know his work, you know exactly what I mean. If you DON’T know his work, do yourself a favor and seek it out. As Mr. Rohn always said, “Finding . . . is reserved for the seekers.”

Why the Packer's coach is wrong (and the life lesson it teaches)

On Sunday the Green Bay Packers lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It was Tampa’s first win of the season, and it only came to be because of an absolutely horrible performance by Green Bay. Poor offense. Poor defense. and even worse special teams.

After a game like that, you’d expect the coach to come out blazing. Instead, Packer fans were treated to a lukewarm post game speech, filled with meaningless promises to “correct the problems,” while admitting that he will change NOTHING in the coming weeks.

What?!?!?

How can he expect to correct the problems without taking action?

The answer: He can’t. And that is exactly why I am predicting here that Green Bay will not make the playoffs this year. By continuing to do the very things that have not worked, they are doomed to repeat these failures.

Is there a lesson in there for anyone?

Are you a DOER, or a WATCHER?

A recent incident got me thinking about the differences between a “doer” and a “watcher.”

A doer is someone that actually puts his or her time, talent, money, and ability on the line by taking positive action toward a worthy goal.

A watcher is someone that stands idly by while others do the work.

A doer is the author. A watcher is the critic.
A doer is the player. A watcher is the fan.
A doer is the artist. A watcher sits in the gallery.

Now, it’s fine to be a watcher in certain instances. We don’t all have to be “doing” everything, and we all need to pick and choose which projects deserve major time.

BUT – here’s the key . . .
